“We’ve removed the ceiling above our dreams. There are no more impossible dreams.”
What does it take to have a good life, a good life is when one lives by his choices rather than the options available to him or her, but life at CCAP takes us one step further and teaches us that we can not make good choices until we capitalize well on the options available to us. Success requires accepting responsibility and life at CCAP teaches you how to handle responsibilities whether professional or personal.
Life at CCAP is a learning which can be found nowhere else. Here at CCAP success comes along with action and rewards are sought only by commitment. CCAP because of its unique structure and design makes the participants the most equipped and natural personnel in the industry. Life at CCAP consists of toiling days of work which requires decisiveness of a very high level. The location of the program being the City of Mumbai is an added advantage for the participants. It is here where you learn how to handle you own life in a way which is apt and useful to all those concerned with you.
Life at CCAP is about learning to become more systematic, it makes you feel big and proud when you interact with high profile people and when stalwarts of the industry come to teach you their own aspects about different issues and you have a chance to make your own arguments without any reluctance. Life at CCAP teaches you the most advanced ways of Financial Analysis and the true practical aspects of the Financial Services Industry. Life at CCAP makes one a professional who is Global in his opinion and generates an out of the box idea without ignoring the conventional aspects of anything. Life at CCAP is about adding value to your work and finding creative solutions to a problem. As the great thinker Shiv Khera says, “Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently” and that is what Life at CCAP teaches you.
Life at CCAP is about knowing your limitations and focusing only on your strengths, a true world class professional atmosphere and the most reputed faculty provided brings out the best in you. Life at CCAP is about living and working in group of people who bring to you several different colors and aspects of life and work and encourage you to move further and faster along with them.
In true words Life at CCAP teaches us that “if opportunity doesn’t knock, I think one forgot to build the door.”

hey,
Was browsing through the crisils website got to know about this programme…which i found it really very intersting…but i already missed the bus for 2009-11 batch…am thinking of applying it next year…got few doubts regarding it…
Well am working as a research associate in an Institutional Equity Broking Firm for the past one year…and have done ma graduation in accounting and finance from Mumbai University….
I wanted to know what are ma chances of getting in this course…coz m really bad at scoring in entrance tests…i already had a look at the type of questions they ask (which was quite tough for me)…though m good at cracking gd pi….and does work ex counts..can it help me getting in..
waiting for reply
thanks

Hi Afsha,
The good news is – your chances of getting in are equal to anyone elses. The bad news is – you have to clear the ent. test. You can’t escape that. You can try your luck with a number of tests which CRISIL excepts and increase the probab. Written is level one and every level is an elimination one.
You just can’t rely on that but work ex does count and surely adds value vis-a-vis other aspirants. So, best of luck for next year.
Thanx

Hi Disha,
my responses to your querries –
1. Scope yet to be checked. But given the fact the there is no degree, be prepared to hard sell a little.
2. 60% in acads and “Proficiency” grade in internship every semester.
3. That would be a personal choice. Masters from UK and a decent univ. will give u a degree and should give you a good prospect of getting a job, whereas ccap will surely give u a job. If you have the resource and good score to get thru a good univ. go for it.
4. It is not easy but manageable
5. So far Crisil hasnt charged anyone who has left the course or has been asked to leave. But about future your guess is as good as mine.
6. around 7 8 kms. doesnt take too long to travel.
pls feel free to contact in case of any other querry.
Our contact nos are uploaded on the site.
cheers

Results of the CCAP online test are going to be out on the 25th. Good luck everyone!! My test went bad, verbal wasn’t able to attempt more than 15, Quants was worse, though DI and reasoning were easy there wasn’t enough time. The essay matters only if you clear the cutoffs, I’m sure. Hi Dharmesh,
The CCAP exam is of 2.5 hours, out of which 0.25 hour is for writing the essay. The difficulty level as well the pattern of the exam is at par with any national level entrance exam like CAT and XAT.
And regarding GD, it can be related to any current topic or even any abstract topic. PI generally includes questions related to your career & future goals and may also include questions which test your general awareness.
Hope this answers your question.
All the best !!!
By: Priyanka Bijlani on February 18, 2009
at 12:08 pm
Hi Dharmesh,
The online test will be held at 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM from March 1 and March 8, 2009 at all the test centers. The test will also include an essay to be written in 15 minutes. You can check out the sample papers on the site discussed above.
As far as GD/PI is concerned you need to have a general awareness of the things going around, newspapers magazines can prepare you for that. It is the attitude you have will carry a higher weightage apart from the knowledge and analytical aptitude you have. Questions can be opinion based as well as factual during the interview. But don’t worry the panel would be quite cooperative.

There is no order or rank of businesses. Please refer to the CRISIL website for details about each business.
There are contact numbers on the Contact us page and also email IDs. Contact Abhishek for Risk,
Me (Ambuj) or Gautam or Praful for GAC and Ratings, also Isha Bagga for ratings and Anvesha for Research
Yardly for Advisory.
Call or email any of us for specific info.

Hi Snehal!
Each department holds immense value and scope to grow for different individuals. It`s always not about competition. If you are asked to choose between five fingers of your hand on the basis of which one is most important, can you do it? No..right…you need all of them intact to function properly… same is the case here. ; ) It depends what you want to do – write/point finger/hold something etc…. ; )
In terms of which option most of the applicants choose i guess it`s ratings. However it doesn`t matter what you choose but what you are actually allotted to because that decision is taken by HR on a number of criteria.
What I can suggest is please go to CRISIL website and read about each and every department (click on the tabs denoting ratings, research etc.) and then make your choice. It will not give you a complete idea of what exactly happens in each of these departments but it will give you an idea about the kind of work done here. This will also help you in your PI round.
Chao….

Hi Manraj!
A typical day in a ccapian`s life…..it varies as much as white from black, meaning there is nothing called a typical day. Every day is different for different people. It depends on the department they are in and the amount of work they have. Its like any other office, if you have a deliverable follow one rule “don`t look at the watch”, people have even sat in office till 6 in the morning…;) and some even work on sunday…;)……but don`t be scared it`s not a everyday affair,it happens once in a while and as I said it`s department specific and basically tests your time management skill. Every department has a peak time period so it varies.
The timings also are different. For GAC & IREVNA its 11 to 7 and for others like Ratings ,Advisory and Research etc it`s 9 to 5 but ignore the end time…
All that matters is your work should be on time no matter what….
Well then comes NITIE days…..friday and saturday…..classes start at 9 sharp….:)…..and go on till 7 in the evening on friday and 6 on saturday.
Well you might think it`s so exhausting but the day doesn`t end there. It just begins for us……vodafone tuesday movies (after office, late nite shows…
) ,cricket, powai lake, hiranandani etc rejuvenate us and the icing on the cake is your friends which is all you need….
Sunday is OUR day…it`s sleeping say for some but for others it`s a party day….
So here you a have an entire week in a ccapian`s life…Hope i have not missed out on anything….

Hi Manraj,
When we joined the program in june last year we spent one month at the NITIE campus where we had classes 6 days a week. We joined our respective businesses in July. We have office from Monday to Thursday and college on Friday and Saturday. On the working day I generally try to reach office on time so that i am able to finish my work on time so is the case with the rest of my room mates. The evening timings are not so sharp and what time you get free and leave office completely depends on the amount of work you have and how late u want to sit in office. And do remember the office timings for GAC and Irevna are from 11 to 7 while for the rest of the businesses the timings are 9 to 5.
On the days we have classes there is only one thing we want (but are able to accomplish only on some occasions) and it is to reach the class in time.

Its is strongly advised to you that CCAP isn’t meant for somebody who is already qualified enough or has a rich experience. CCAP is more relevant for freshers or graduates with lesser experience.
For people already well placed in any industry, please consider your priorities before jumping jobs or fields for the sake of it.
It is highly probable that after CCAP you might find yourself at the same place where you started. In short, do not apply for CCAP. Post your resume to the right places, and you will land yourself a good job.
Thanks.

Hey buddy,
I am not sure if there is a constant cutoff.. but a couple of us who had 95+ scores got gd/pi calls last year.. even if someone who applied with XAT scores doesn’t get a call based on his score he would be given an opportunity to give the Crisil apti test..
Hmm.. I am sure you would agree this question is similar to asking an mba student what his college would look for in potential students.. If I were to guess, they would look at if you had any relevant work exp.. how u were at acads and your “learnability quotient” .. diversity of backgrounds does exist in the present batches.. we have guys from pharma, IT, agriculture, hotel management, biomedical etc.. so u don’t need to worry if you are from non-fin background.. hope this answers ur query..

Hi Manraj!
Well just like in any other admission procedure, the cut off depends on several criteria, ‘applications received’ being one of them and management will have their own map for that. There is nothing like a minimum ‘known percentile’ criteria but above ninety should fetch you a call. I would advise you to tick the option for the test and mention your scores as well because you won`t be asked to appear for the test if your XAT percentile meets the cut off.
Just be yourself, don’t think on the lines of what CRISIL is looking for in a candidate. Be yourself and prepare well. If you are game enough for analytical rigour, you surely will find a place in CCAP.
Now coming to the businesses – you can read about each businesses in detail here:
http://www.crisil.com/index.jsp
and then make your choice. There is nothing called the best place to work at. It all depends on your interest and CRISIL takes good care of that.

I have done my PGDBM (Finance)(2005-07) from Welingkar Institute and worked with Sbi life for 1 year in operations.
I am very keen to divert my career in industry/equity/economy research kind of profile which I always wanted to do .So while exploring different options I found CCAP course very unique and suitable for me and undoubtly Crisil is the best place to get overall exposure and learn about various businesses and sectors.

Hi Lipi !
Thanks for praising the blog the credit goes to our seniors especially Rizwan.
Equity research is done by one of the business units called IREVNA that is based in Chennai besides that CRISIL Research deals into equity research. During the programme the interns are based in Mumbai only so you would get the opportunity to work with CRISIL Research only (though it depends which department you are allocated to during your selection process).
As far as the paper pattern is concerned it is based on CAT pattern. You can view a sample question paper here:
http://www.crisil.com/ccap/ccap-sitemap.html
Besides the entrance also consists of an essay writing. No the work experience is not mandatory and both batches are a healthy mix of freshers and people with experience. The most important thing is what you ultimately want to do in your career.
For any other queries email me on :

Hi Lipi,
The entrance test is exactly similar to other B-school entrance tests…You can get the model papers at http://www.crisil.com/ccap/crisil-sample-questions.pdf. As far as equity research is concerned, only crisil research (A business unit of Crisil) works on them….other divisions do not. Work exp is not at all mandatory….
And thanks for appreciating the website. The guys here have really worked hard on it.

Hi Saurabh,
It would be best if you tick yes because they will call you for the test only if you don’t clear the cutoff.
At 96 you stand a very good chance for a call… but in case.
You can appear for the CRISIL test as well but that will be your choice.
By: Rizwan Siddiqui on January 5, 2009

Hi Saurabh,
What you require in CCAP is not a financial background but a willingness to learn and the ability to apply that learning in practice.
We at ccap believe in delivering our best and even now our class is a healthy mix of people both from the financial and non financial backgrounds. So this is 1 area about which you don’t really need to worry about. I hope i have been able to answer your query .in case you have any further problems feel free to contact me.

Hi Saurabh,
Our batch consists of people from varied backgrounds viz. BA, B.Com, Engineering, Economics, Hotel Management etc. So you can be rest assured about your background.
And anyways CRISIL does not have any specific qualification criteria. The only requirement is that you should be a graduate with 50 % marks.

Hey Vikas,
Good to see your interest in the course, but as far as wat i understand the role of a BA, no such opportunities exist in CRISIL. We are into ratings and research and advisory. Product development as a domain exists in CRISIL Risk solutions but still it is not same as in the IT companies. Besides Considering your experience i would suggest you to directly apply in banks and companies where Banking & Finance softwares are developed. CCAP is a good course for freshers and people who want to join finance in the early stage of their careers.
Anyone interested in knowing more about CCAP, pls refer to Crisil Certified Analyst Program forum on http://www.pagalguy.com or http://www.crisil.com/ccap

To Nikhil
I guess what you are trying to ask is – “Will I be able to work in Investment Banking after the program?”
Answer is Yes – The program is very relevant for Investment Banking. Infact you will see many ex-crisilities working in front-end of some of the top I-Banks, Private Equity Funds and Hedge Funds in the country.
To Saurabh
Sorry Saurabh officially we dont allow drinks so no bar –

Hi Vikas,
We do not get the paper back after completing the test so it is not possible to get the sense of actual test papers. The format of the test is the same as that of the CAT exam. You can see the sample papers provided by CRISIL at http://www.crisil.com/ccap/crisil-sample-questions.pdf
Further as far as i remember three topics were given for the essay out of which we had to choose 1. the topics can be from any field. mostly all the topics are from diverse fields. All i remember is the topic i had written on wad something based on the relavence of Gandhi in today’s context.
I hope I have been able to answer your question. If you still have any problem you are free to contact me on email.

Hi Nikhil,
Here are the possible replies from me:
1. An analyst will be an employee of a firm (in our case, a finance firm) who studies companies, sectors and even industries to make recommendations for the best possible decision.
2. There are opportunities in the Global Analytical Centre where you get to work on International rating assignments. Opportunity also exists in the domestic ratings area.
3. After completion of the course, you are not officially bound to work for CRISIL. If you want to pursue any other career, you are free to choose. But I suggest – please think on your career priorities before you join the programme.
Hope this answers your questions. You might receive inputs from other CCAP interns as well. Should you have any queries, please feel free to ask.
Thanks.

Hi Anirudh,
One needs minimum 50 per cent aggregate marks at graduation level to apply for the program. CRISIL generally accepts scores of CAT and XAT MBA entrance exams. Besides this, it also conducts its own national level entrance exam which is on the same lines as any other MBA exam (CAT / XAT). This is followed by a Group Discussion and Personal interview.
The CCAP 09-11 brochure/ advertisement will be out in mid-December which might provide you a deeper insight about the same.
In case u need any other information, feel free to get back to me or any of my fellow ccapians.

To Vikas:
You are not required to carry a laptop with you as far as the course is concerned. But if you carry one, that will help you in doing the assignments and keeping notes & other stuff. That really helps. So, you can carry your gadgets as per your requirements. The course doesn’t ask one to.
To Chhavi:
Business Units don’t change. (Business unit is GAC, Advisory, Res…). You are required to work with the BU which has sponsored you for whole two years. You will be working across industries and on various assignments in those two years (can be called “dept inside BU”). Its quite diversified. After completing the course you will be working for the same BU for one more year and then you have the option of changing BU (Advisory, Risk, Research), provided there is a position vacant in that BU.
For Lokhandwala: It varies from 20 min to 45 min depending on the time and traffic and also the mode you are travelling with.
Thanks,
Rizwan

Hi Ali
The entire programme is conducted at NITIE and you will be required to attend CRISIL office for the internship. The number of days for office and Classes are 4:2 resp. with sundays off. The classes and office will be the same throughout the two years. Dept. (not Bus. Unit) might change as you progress in the tasks at office and that is at discretion of the management. Please ask the concerned person for specific queries on dept. (“Who is the person“)
Thanks & Regards,
Rizwan
